Blocking the Mi account due to lost data is an unpleasant situation every user can face. There are many reasons: you forgot your password/login, no access to the mail or linked phone. Therefore, it is important to know how to independently carry out the official unlinking of the Mi account and restore access to the smartphone.
Who needs this instruction?
The method described below will be relevant for devices purchased officially. If you have found or stolen a device – nothing will work. On hand must be a receipt from the purchase and the original box. Only high-quality photos are allowed, and they must be uploaded to the unlock service.
Was the phone purchased in an online store? Then a screenshot with information about payment and merchant will do.
Note: this is an official unlock, not bypassing FRP and not breaking your smartphone. Similar procedures are carried out in the service centers, but with the help of this instruction you can unlock your account by yourself and for free.
What you need to unlink
If we’re talking about a phone bought in a physical store, then for server unlinking, you will need the following:
- A photo of the receipt confirming the purchase;
- A recorded receipt number;
- A snapshot of the back of the factory box;
- IMEI address of the device or a lock code.
With online purchases, the situation is similar, but instead of a photo of the receipt, you need a screenshot of the order with all the details. For example, on AliExpress, it’s the order number, the recipient’s full name, and the delivery address.
How to unlink your Mi account if you cannot access it
The operation will take place on the service i.mi.com through the Mi Find Device page. This is the official site for applying to unlock (unlink) a Mi account. You will find the link below. The procedure requires access to a computer.
Choice of unlock type
Step 1: We go to i.mi.com/find/device/activationlock/ and see the main page in English. We are offered to check the Internet connection, restore the password to the account, or send an application to unlock the account.
Step 2: pay attention to the second item and click “Submit unlock application“.
Step 3: Look carefully at the section that appears. Here is the information that the user has to provide. Namely the IMEI and proof of legal purchase. We click on the green “Start” button if everything is satisfactory.
Data entry
Step 4: fill in two fields. In the first one, you must enter either the device’s ID number or the lock code. It is up to you, but adding the lock code is much faster and easier. To find it out, you need to:
- Turn on your smartphone and click the lock ten times above “This device is locked“;
- Write down the unique lock code.
Alternatively, you can enter the IMEI. Our special article will tell you how to restore the serial number of your device.
In the second column, specify the region. Do not choose China, Hong Kong, or Taiwan, as the list will not include the necessary stores. Stop at “Indonesia“. Double-check the data you entered and press “Next“.
Step 5: skip the point where you are prompted to enter the phone number linked to the account. This is only relevant if you forgot your Mi account password but have access to your smartphone. Today’s article doesn’t cover that option, so click the second green button from the bottom, “Skip…“.
If you can not skip the step of entering phone number (to confirm the application) and need to specify the Chinese or Indonesian number – then use the services of virtual SIM-cards. There are many of these sites, there are both paid and free options.
Uploading photos or screenshots
Step 6: Upload materials that confirm the legal purchase of the phone. In the line “Where did you get your device?” it is necessary to specify how you got your mobile device.
- “Used phone” – we bought a second-hand phone;
- “Gift” – the phone was given as a present;
- “mi.com ” – the phone was ordered from the official global site;
- “Other vendors” – other store purchases. This is the most preferred option.
Next, add a high-quality picture of the package, which contains all the information about the smartphone (especially the IMEI and the model of the device). Below please upload a screenshot/photo of the receipt or screenshot of the internet order. Press “Next“.
This concludes the procedure. You only have to wait three business days, and the account will be disconnected from your smartphone. When the application is approved, connect to any Wi-Fi network and the reset is automatically performed.

Can I activate my account after unlinking it to continue using it?
If you do not remember your password and have lost access to the tethered mail or phone – no. It is better to re-create the Mi account and remember/write the data from it.
I have been denied an unlock. What should I do?
It means that you have provided untrue or incomplete information. Gather all the necessary data, take good-quality pictures, and try again.
