AOSP (Android Open Source Project) is a special project from Google that contains information about the source code of the Android operating system. Such development allows any, even the most novice developers, to modernize and improve the original OS in every possible way. At the same time, it allows you to create your firmware. By 2014, about 20% of the shells were created using AOSP. And this is an indicator of the success of the project.
The whole project can be found on the official site. Access to it is completely free. It contains all the open-source codes which developers can use for their purposes. For example, to optimize the Android system for car onboard screens or tablets.
The only drawback of AOSP is that third-party developers can’t compete with Google. By default, the system is embedded with branded applications and services. And if you remove them, you get a completely uninteresting and inconvenient shell. That is why almost every modern smartphone already has installed programs from the GAPPS package.
