GSM is the common mobile communication standard that currently has the greatest coverage. If your device supports this connection, you can send messages, make calls, and even access the Internet. Upon closer examination, one can conclude that the GSM standard refers to the second generation of mobile Internet, put – 2G.
The range of the network is no more than 120 kilometers, but given the current location of telephone towers, this distance is enough. The main disadvantage, due to which manufacturers began to install 3G and 4G modules in their smartphones, is the low speed of information processing in GSM networks. That is, the data transfer rate will not exceed the threshold of 474.6 kbps.
However, despite the significant disadvantage, the GSM communication standard is characterized by low battery consumption. If you want the phone to work only with GSM networks, then follow this path: “Settings” → “SIM cards and mobile networks” → “SIM card settings” → “Preferred network type” → “2G”.
