SpO2

SpO2 is a function for measuring the oxygen levels in a person’s blood. The detection sensor appeared only in the fifth generation of the Mi Band fitness tracker, but it is also present in Amazfit devices (GTR 2, Bip, and others).

SpO2 value is required to know in certain situations:

  • having a surgical procedure;
  • oxygen therapy;
  • recovery of the human body after surgery;
  • health screening.

Specialists distinguish several levels of oxygen in the blood:

  • over 95% is ideal;
  • 90-94% – slight deficiency;
  • 86-90% – average;
  • less than 85% – medical diagnosis is necessary.

An excessively low score signals the presence of hidden health problems.

The principle of this function is simple. A specially designed module emits safe light, penetrating the body tissues and then reflecting in the photodetector. As a result, the blood absorbs a certain amount of light – this is the amount that indicates the level of oxygen saturation.
