Firmware Index

A firmware index is a special number assigned to each MIUI. You can view it in the smartphone settings by opening the “About phone” section. Near the item “MIUI version” you will see the necessary numerical and alphabetic designation. But how do you decipher it?

So let’s take the 11.0.2.0 (PCGMIXM) index as an example. The first four digits stand for the firmware version. And in more detail, it’s the serial number of the firmware release. This code will change after each update. But more interesting are strange letters in brackets. What do they mean?

The first letter, in our case P, indicates the Android version. That is P = Pie = Android 9. If the phone had Android 8, the designation would start with O (Oreo). The second and third letters indicate the encrypted model name of the smartphone. This is an internal designation, which somehow helps the developers.

The fourth and fifth letters indicate the region for which this firmware was created. There are two versions of MIUI: global (indexed MI, EU, RU, IN, ID) and Chinese (indexed CN).

Well, the last two letters indicate the localization of firmware, that is, its belonging to a particular mobile operator. If it is a combination of XM, then the shell is without localization. Consequently, this phone works perfectly within different networks.
