IrDA

The IrDA or IR port is an optical communication line that uses an infrared range of light waves to transmit data. The infrared port was very popular and used to control various appliances. It was most often installed in remote controls for TVs and air conditioners. Now it can be found in many smartphones. So what is it for?

The IR port, installed in the phone, controls household appliances. It can be a TV, a fan, a smart console, a projector, and even a camera. In general, all devices support communication through the IR port. On Xiaomi smartphones, there is a special application called “Mi Remote” or Mi Remote. It can be used to control equipment from different manufacturers. For example, to add a virtual remote from the TV, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the ” +” icon in the screen’s upper left corner.
  2. Select “TV”.
  3. Specify the manufacturer of the TV.
  4. Point your smartphone at the TV and follow the instructions on the screen. That is, try to increase the volume or change the channel.

IR ports are beginning to disappear in technology, as they have been replaced by faster data transfer technologies such as Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. Smartphones are equipped with an IrDA SIR port with a maximum transmission rate of 115.2 Kbps. By today’s standards, this is a very low value, but it is sufficient for controlling technology.
