How to Exit FastBoot Mode on Xiaomi

In most cases, the Fastboot mode is useful for users because with it, you can perform some system actions, but there are situations when this mode prevents the normal startup of the device. And here, you need to know how to exit Fastboot mode on Xiaomi correctly without damaging the functioning of the operating system.

What is Fastboot Mode on Xiaomi?

Fastboot is a special low-level firmware mode that works independently of the operating system, using which you can perform various operations on the system level with your smartphone. For example, to install new firmware, install custom recovers, perform deep wipes and backups, and get root rights.

This mode is useful by not allowing harm to the phone, like the “Super User” rights, with the help of which it’s possible to overclock the processor to its complete failure.

Why the phone goes to Fastboot mode, and how to determine it

Most often, the Fastboot mode opens by itself due to failures in the smartphone. Here are some examples:

  1. After a failed reflash. This also includes improper switching from MIUI China Stable to MIUI Global Stable.
  2. Incorrect system update. For example, you have a Chinese version of the phone with global firmware, and you received an over-the-air (OTA) update. Such an update is risky, especially with a locked bootloader (you’ll be interested in the news about the ban on switching to other MIUI versions).
  3. Removal of system-critical files via ROOT or Magisk.
  4. There can also be problems after damaging or sinking Xiaomi.
  5. Another trivial option is accidentally enabling this option in the “Quick Boot” settings.

It is simple enough to know that it is this mode, not the recovery. The display will show an inscription with “fastboot mode…” (as in the example picture above).

Exit fastboot mode on Xiaomi

The easiest way is to press the power button for 20-30 seconds, and the phone will reboot itself and then return to normal. Usually, this method helps if there are no malfunctions and failures on the device, but it does not always work. If it did not help, move on.

Disabling with Android SDK Platform Tools

The second method is a little more complicated and requires a computer. In my example, I will use Windows 10.

  1. Download from the official website the archive containing Android SDK Platform Tools for remote control Fastboot mode.
  2. In the window that opens, check the box that confirms the acceptance of the conditions of use of the program.
  3. Unpack the downloaded file on your computer and save the files to the root of your system drive (example “c:adb”).
  4. Now connect your smartphone to your PC using a USB cable. Your phone should already be in Fastboot mode.
  5. Open the command line: right-click on the Windows icon (in the lower left corner) – “Run” – enter the command cmd“.
  6. The window opens, and we write: “cd” and then enter. With this command, we go to the root of the drive.
  7. Now we enter the following command “cd adb” and press Enter again. This command takes us to the folder with the unpacked files.
  8. The last command is fastboot reboot” and Enter.

Finished! The phone should reboot itself and exit fastboot mode.

Resetting settings through Recovery

This is not the best option because you will lose all the data you have not synchronized with Google or saved on the memory card. We recommend choosing this method only if the above methods did not give any results.

  1. Before starting the operation, remove the SD card (if any).
  2. Putting the phone into recovery mode. For this purpose, press the power button and volume up key.
  3. The phone restarts, and then we get to the menu of the Mi Recovery 3.0.
  4. Press Wipe Data/Factory Reset and confirm.
  5. This starts the process of deleting all user data and system settings. You’ll have to wait about 5-15 minutes. After that Xiaomi phone will start up in its factory form.

The first system startup after a reset may take up to 10 minutes.
