How to Unlock Xiaomi Phone if I Forgot My Password

To protect personal data, quite a few users put security features, such as fingerprint scanners, Face ID facial recognition, graphic symbols, or standard passwords of letters and numbers. And it is with this type that problems occur all the time. It’s very easy to forget a password, especially a complex one. That’s why people wonder how to unlock their Xiaomi phone if they forget the password and if it’s even possible.

Fortunately, it is possible to restore access to the smartphone with full preservation of all settings and materials. Let’s discuss all the available methods.

5 working ways to unlock your Xiaomi phone

If you have forgotten the password of the graphic key or pin code on the Xiaomi phone itself – then the only method will be to delete all the data. But here, the important point will be access to the connected Mi or Google account.

Restoring the password from the Google account

Unfortunately, the standard method of restoring a forgotten password is not suitable here because an SMS with confirmation will come exactly to the locked phone. And even if you’ve logged in to your PC for a long time without entering a password, you’ll need to enter your old password, that is, your forgotten password, when you try to change it in the “Security and Login ” section.

But there is one method. Google still foresaw a situation where both passwords are forgotten, and the phone number is inactive. To do this, go to the instructions for regaining access to the Google account.

And as accurately as possible, answer a few questions posed. For example, enter the password that you remember, etc. You must also enter the e-mail address, to which you will receive an e-mail confirming that you are the exact owner of the account, and you will be allowed to change the password without a phone.

Account Mi-Restore

It’s a bit easier here, but there are fewer recovery options. The only way is to restore through a phone number or email linked to the account.

  1. Go to the official website id.mi.com to unlock your device.
  2. We click on “forgot password” from your account.
  3. Now confirm the password reset and enter the linked email or number.
  4. In our case, enter the email address, click “send” and correctly enter the captcha.
  5. Now open the letter that came with the code, insert it in a special field, and click “submit. Then you get to the window where you must create a new password.

If the letter did not come, carefully check your spam or inbox and if it is not there, and more than 5 minutes have passed – repeat the request to send a message.

You must have access to email on your computer. If it is only on the phone, and the PC is not at hand, or you do not remember the data from it – nothing will work.

If you can not get the security code to your email or smartphone, you need to contact the official Xiaomi support service (email address is almost supported). Write a letter only in English. You can use an online translator.

The above method does not restore access to the phone itself. It only resets the Mi-account password. To restore access to Xiaomi, you need to write to support, so the data will not be deleted. If there is no important data – reset all the settings through Recovery. Be also prepared to enter the password from the Mi-account at the first power-up. That’s why we recovered the password according to the instructions above.

Application is considered within a few days, and a successful solution often requires data proving that the account and the device belong to you: original packaging, receipt from the purchase, and imei phone. If nothing helps, the only way out is to delete the Mi-account.

Unlocking via TWRP

TWRP is considered the best third-party unlocking, which helps to perform advanced setup, install custom firmware, and have direct access to the operating system core.

Deleting lock files

Quite a simple way that leaves all the data untouched. In addition, access to the Internet and a computer are not required.

  1. Open Recovery;
  2. In the main menu, open the item called “Advanced” and “File Manager”, acting as the file manager;
  3. Go to the system folders, namely, “data” – “system” and delete 5 files – gesture.key, password.key, locksettings.db, locksettings.db-wal and locksettings.db-shm.
  4. Done. Go to the root of the menu and click “Reboot”. Done. The next time you turn on your smartphone, the lock screen will no longer bother you, and you will be free to use your device.

Use the ” Delete” and “Back” buttons to delete the files; each file must be deleted separately. When you have done these simple steps, complete the operation by rebooting the device.

Full reset

Using the settings reset through the recovery. You can remove the forgotten graphics key. But you must remember that all settings are automatically returned to the factory defaults, and the information in the internal memory is deleted without a trace. Only a connected SD card can partially save the situation. But if none of the other methods helped, this is, unfortunately, the only way out.

Turn the phone off and put it into recovery mode the standard way: press the power and volume down/up buttons. As soon as the logo appears, click on “Recovery”. If items are not flipped with touch gestures, use mechanical keys on the phone.

Press “wipe data/factory reset” and confirm by clicking “Yes“. Once all the data clearing is done, reboot the smartphone: “reboot system“.

You will get access to the phone without problems, but, alas, you will lose your materials.

Through the program Dr.fone toolkit (Android Data Recovery)

A specially designed utility that helps you remove almost all kinds of screen locks. Data is not deleted but only requires an Internet connection and access to a PC. Once the tool is installed on your computer, perform a few simple maneuvers:

  1. Download the program from the developer’s site https://drfone.wondershare.com/android-data-recovery.html
  2. Open Dr.fone and connect your smartphone to the PC using a USB cord.
  3. On the screen, you will find “Unlock screen” caption and press it.
  4. Set the phone into recovery mode again, like in the above variant, and wait for the process, which loads the recovery files. You will have free access to your device in a couple of minutes.

Factory reset via Google’s Phone Finder

And the last method in our article is perfectly suitable for beginners and inexperienced users. Unfortunately, all the data is also deleted, but if you don’t want to master TWRP, this is one of the best options.

All we need is a mobile Internet or Wi-Fi, another unlocked phone or computer.

  1. First, let’s go to Google’s Find My Device service.
  2. Now log into that Google account, which was attached to the smartphone.
  3. The site will automatically start searching for all available devices associated with this account.
  4. Then select “Erase data” – “Ok”, and you’re done. The smartphone will completely return to its factory appearance.

Please note! After the reset, you will be asked to enter your account password the first time you turn on the phone.

  2. My brother just passed away unexpectedly couple days ago. He told my sister he had an old Xiaomi phone with all his important files and she will will know what to do. Unfortunately he never mentioned the passcode to access the phone. To be honest, we had no idea whether he setup a xiaomi account when he first setup the phone. By searching thru the web, almost all 3rd party softwares are just telling how to get into the miui to do a hard reset which is not an option for us since our goal is to access the files inside. Is there any advice you can suggest what option we have? Thanks in advance.
