How Qi works
Qi is a standard by which energy is transferred without wires. The charge replenishment procedure is carried out through electromagnetic induction. Magnetic radiation transmits current to a small distance “through the air” without a charging cable.
The smartphone should be placed on the docking station, and the station itself is plugged into a power outlet. It is recommended to use powerful adapters with Quick Charge 3 or higher.
Fresh Xiaomi flagships with wireless charging can fully charge in 50 minutes. The Mi 11 supports 50W over-the-air charging, + there’s Power Delivery 3.0 and Quick Charge 4+ technology. All of this provides fast and comfortable recharging.
Pros and cons
Let’s take a look at the pros and cons of Wireless charging.
Advantages:
- Convenience. There is no need to connect a wire to your smartphone. It is enough to place your mobile device horizontally or vertically on the special stand.
- Safety. Reduces the risk of overheating if there is a sudden power surge.
- No loosening of the USB connector. Ports are often broken and clogged with daily wired charging.
- Charging multiple devices at once. Modern docking stations allow you to simultaneously charge your smartphone, headphones, and watch.
Disadvantages:
- Low charging speed. Xiaomi already equips its flagship devices with fast wireless charging, but wired charging is still more powerful.
- Uncomfortable using the phone. You have to interrupt the charging process to answer the call.
- You need to buy a docking station separately.
- The technology is present only inexpensive smartphones.
Docking stations have an excellent alternative – external batteries with wireless charging support. But to buy such a bank makes sense only if the phone supports the standard Qi. Any wireless chargers will be useless if the device is not equipped with wireless charging technology.
How to add to any model Xiaomi wireless charging
Only one working option is to use a special Qi receiver inserted into the connector micro-USB or Type-C. You can buy the gadget at any technology store. But this method has disadvantages:
- the phone port will still be busy;
- the charging speed is very low;
- overheating of the battery is possible (if the receiver is of poor quality);
- rapid failure.
It is not certain that the Qi receiver will normally charge your smartphone. Many users complain that such gadgets are almost useless.
Xiaomi smartphones with reverse wireless charging
There are several phones with reverse wireless charging in Xiaomi’s range. Reverse charging allows your smartphone to charge other devices, such as phones, smart watches, headphones, etc.
