XiaoMiTool V2

The MIUI firmware allows you to configure your Xiaomi phones flexibly, but an experienced user can go beyond the standard settings. In this case, special programs designed to expand the phone’s functionality can help. One of these tools is XiaoMiTool V2. In this article, you will learn what features this software has and how to use them.

XiaoMiTool V2 – what program is it?

XiaoMiTool V2 (by Francesco Tescari) is a computer program that allows you to perform complex system operations on Xiaomi and Redmi smartphones. First, it is a flashing tool for mobile devices similar to the popular MiFlash.

XiaoMiTool V2 is NOT an official Xiaomi program: the development was done by someone not directly related to the company. Nevertheless, it is safe software, which will not affect your data and perform all the specified communications. We recommend you download it only from the official website for maximum safety.

Features

The main advantage of XiaoMiTool – is Xiaomi firmware without an unlocked bootloader. You can put the official shell with an inactive bootloader and stock recovery. But this only applies to the Global Version. In the Chinese version, such actions can lead to the phone “bricking”.

Also, the program provides the following features:

  • Installation of custom builds (for example, xiaomi.eu). You need to download the file to your computer by yourself.
  • Downloading official firmware (Chinese or global) directly in the application interface. XiaoMiTool itself selects builds suitable for your smartphone model. Therefore, manual downloading of firmware from the official site is not required.
  • Detailed information about the phone: code name, serial number, bootloader status, MIUI and Android version, and Recovery and Fastboot information.
  • Installing ROOT rights, Magisk and TWRP.
  • Unlock or lock the bootloader.

Differences from Mi Flash

Mi Flash is a Xiaomi program used to reflash your smartphone officially. The prerequisite is an active bootloader. This is the main disadvantage.

Mi Flash requires manual downloading of the off. firmware. Moreover, this utility makes it impossible to perform actions with the bootloader and put root, Magick, or custom recovers.

If you only want to flash the device and you have an unlocked boot loader, then MiFlash will do. If you need more advanced features and the bootloader is inactive, consider XiaoMiTool V2.

Downloading from the official website

You can download the program from xiaomitool.com. There are alpha and beta versions for Windows, MacOS, and Ubuntu operating systems. At the bottom of each build, there is a detailed description.

Scroll down the page to the desired item and click Download link next to the operating system’s name. Save the exe file to disk and wait for the download to complete, which on average, takes a few minutes.

Xiaomitool.com is a proven and reliable site, but still, I recommend checking the downloaded file for viruses beforehand. Then you can proceed to install Xiaomi Mi Tool 2.

Installing and running XiaoMiTool V2

  1. Find the setup file and click it twice.
  2. Allow this application to make changes to the devices.
  3. Go through the standard installation procedure. Click ” Next ” to indicate where you want to install the program. Select Install.
  4. After a successful installation, click “Finish”. If “Run XiaoMiTool” is checked, the tool will load automatically. Or you can run it through a shortcut on the desktop.

Flashing Xiaomi with XiaoMiTool V2

Proceed directly to the flashing through Xiaomitool. There are two important things to note right away. Firstly, you can reflash Xiaomi without unlocking the bootloader only for the official build. If you install Custom ROM, you must have an active bootloader. Otherwise, you will get a “brick”.

Secondly, our site is not responsible for what you have done. We do not warrant that your phone will work after flashing. You should not attempt this procedure if you are not confident in your skills.

Preparatory actions

  1. On your computer, in the settings, disable digital drivers’ signatures. We talked about how to do it in the article about MiFlash.
  2. Manually install adb and fastboot drivers. You may not need them, but it’s better to be safe.
  3. In the smartphone, you switch on the USB debugging.
  4. Be sure to make a backup copy to avoid losing important data stored on the phone.
  5. Charge your mobile device to 70-100%.

Installing the official firmware with a locked bootloader

  1. Turn the phone off and wait a few minutes until all system activity stops.
  2. Press the Power button and the volume up button. After vibration, releases the power button. The stock mode Recovery should start when we press “Connect with MiAssistant”. Go to this point with the volume down key, and press the power button to start the command.
  3. We connect the phone to the computer with the USB wire.
  4. Launch Xiaomi Tool 2. Agree with the potential consequences by clicking “Agree”.
  5. Choose your region and click “My device works normally. I want mod it”.
  6. The program should detect the connected mobile device. If it recognizes it successfully, the serial number and the code name will appear at the top. Next, we press Select.
  7. On Redmi models, the device will most likely reboot, and the screen will say to allow debugging via USB (even though you have enabled it before). But on Mi, this action will not be – so it is stated in the instructions on the forum XDA Developers.
  8. In the next step, the utility will display detailed information about the smartphone, such as the smartphone’s name, serial number, bootloader, fastboot, and recovery status.
  9. The phone will automatically reboot again. A new window will pop up in XiaomiTool, where you must select the Official Xiaomi rom tab.
  10. It will load the firmware that is suitable for your model. Choose Global Stable.
  11. Accept the warnings and tap Continue. The firmware download will start.
  12. The phone gets rebooted into the stock recovery, where you should again choose Connect with MiAssistant.
  13. The direct installation of the build will start. At this time, you shouldn’t perform any actions on the computer or the smartphone. Also, you can’t disconnect your phone from your PC. You need to wait. Percentages on the phone may hang up. This is normal.
  14. If the green inscription “Installation completed successfully” and a smiling smiley face popped up, reflashing was successful. Now you can disconnect the smartphone and close the program. The mobile device will start up on its own. As always, you will need to perform the operating system’s initial configuration.

Solutions to common problems

Problem: XiaoMiTool shows “Feature not available yet”.
Solution: Make sure that USB debugging is enabled. Reinstall the utility and repeat the operation.

Problem: Xiaomitool doesn’t see the phone.
Solution: As in the previous case, you need to check the active debugging. Another problem could be the lack of necessary drivers. Usually, the utility puts them, but you may also need to intervene. Don’t forget to disable digital signature verification on Windows 10.

Problem: The program suggests reflashing only in Fastboot mode, which requires an active bootloader.
Solution: This situation occurs if you did not switch to the stock recovering at the beginning of the procedure. Run Mi Recovery 3.0 and open the Mi Tool only afterward.

Problem: Flashing stops at 40% and goes no further.
Solution: This is normal. The most important thing is not to interrupt the process but wait. Then at once, it will be 80-90%. If you disconnect the smartphone from the computer during the operation, you will get a “brick”.

We have figured out how to install a new shell through XiaoMiTool V2 with an unlocked bootloader. It’s quite a simple procedure if you follow all the recommendations. If you have any more questions, please get in touch with us in the comments.

  1. Pregunta eso funciona con un poco m3 que no tiene el bootloader desbloqueado y no deja desbloquearlo por qué no se puede vincular la línea con la cuenta y el móvil

  2. I have a Redmi Note 12 Pro+ 5G Chinese version MIUI which I wish to change to the international version MIUI but your article suggests that XiaoMiTool V2
will brick a Chinese model phone, did I read this correctly?

    • To not get a brick, you need to unlock the bootloader and install the correct version of the global firmware. And most importantly, after reflashing, bootloader cannot be locked!
